Our Logo: The
horizontal direction of a point on the celestial sphere, or the bearing of the
geographical position is called the
Azimuth or Azimuth Angle depending upon the
method of measurement. In both methods it is the arc of the horizon (or
parallel of altitude) or the angle at the zenith.
It is the Azimuth (Zn) if measured clockwise thru 360 degrees, starting at the
north point on the horizon, and the azimuth angle (Z) if measured either
clockwise or counterclockwise thru 180 degrees.
This is the Bowditch terminology ("America Practical Navigator") from a nautical prospective serving a navigational purpose (reflecting our maritime heritage as our company has direction). It also has an engineering connotation as it applies to surveying (understanding the environment)....this reflects our engineering tradition.
